The Cotopaxi Consolidated Schools, Cotopaxi, Colorado, School Board, is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2024.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards and the Colorado Association of School Executives, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.
Enrollment: 190 students
Location: Cotopaxi lies on both sides of the Arkansas River, 33 miles (53 km) west of Cañon City, the county seat, and 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Salida. It is about 150 miles south of Denver.
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership.
Passionate: A person who is focused on student achievement while meeting the needs of all students. A person who understands and has high regard for small rural agricultural communities. One who has the ability to create a common vision, establish goals and follow through with results. Able to inspire others.
Leader: A leader with a history of consistently demonstrating honesty, integrity, ethical treatment of others. A person who has an open and collaborative management style. A person with the ability to develop a shared vision for the future of the district with the strength and conviction to follow through and make tough decisions.
Communicator: A leader with strong communication skills who listens to both the school and greater community. A person who speaks and writes with clarity and is able to communicate tough and difficult issues in a positive manner. A person who is comfortable with radio and newspapers as well as social media.
Manager: A leader with successful fiscal management skills including school finance, budgeting and equitable allocation of funds and creativity in seeking additional forms of revenue. A person who knows how to manage a system focused on improvement. One who has the ability to work effectively with the school board.

Effective and articulate communication skills
Excellent judgment and emotional awareness
Possesses a strong self-awareness and is resilient in managing stress
Engages with others in a personable, tactful, and engaging manner
Organizational Oversight
Strong understanding of financial sustainability and budget development
Proven ability to hire, develop, retain, and support excellent faculty and staff
Commitment to data informed decision making
Understands charter school laws, policies, practices, and challenges
Proven experience with fundraising campaigns and grant writing
Salary Range: $135,000 - $165,000
