Salary Range:  $135,000 - $155,000, eligible for performance bonus

Job Summary: 

 

The K-8 Athletic Director provides administrative leadership in the planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of athletic programs for K-8 and middle schools. The K-8 Athletic Director promotes extracurricular athletic activity that fosters skill development, understanding of sports, appreciation for various athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students and adults.  Additionally, this position will support principals and assistant principals with organizing athletics and activities during fall, winter, and spring sports. 

 

The time commitment for the Athletic Director is intensive at the beginning of each sports season, involving coordination with staff, students, and families. Ongoing duties include overseeing sports programs, ensuring student welfare, and maintaining academic standards.  This position requires monitoring athletics in the evenings and on Saturdays.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to communicate and plan with school leaders in K-8 and middle schools to ensure all events regarding Athletics and Activities run smoothly.  

  • Establish the schedule for each sport, cross country, volleyball, football, girls basketball and soccer, boys basketball and soccer, wrestling, track, and other sporting events at K-8 and middle schools. This includes 4th and 5th grade basketball and soccer.

  • Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport.

  •  Assist the building principal in recruiting and selecting coaches and post job vacancies internally and externally. Follow Human Resources procedures to hire and release coaches.  Assist with the organization of and attend pre-season coach’s meetings.  Provide coaching and growth opportunities for coaches.

  •  Be the district’s contact for all K-8 and middle school game officials and arrange for officials’ checks and procedures for officials and sign voucher receipts.

  •  Arrange transportation for all away contests.

  •  Work with school APs to schedule and arrange for supervision for all games.

  •  Prepare and administer the athletic budget for each K-8 and middle school.

  •  Purchase the necessary uniforms, equipment, and supplies per the budgeted amounts.

  •  Work with APs on issues related to supplies and equipment.  Be responsible for an up-to-date inventory of all athletic equipment and supplies. Oversee the return of uniforms by coaches to ensure useability and cleanliness.   

  •  Review and update the athletic handbook on a yearly basis. 

  •  Plan for athletic facilities for practices and contests and record in FMX.

  •  Meet 2-3 times a year with coaches to review procedures, medical information, awards, concerns, and issues.

  •  Confirm, attend, supervise, and administer K-8 and Middle School home contests.

  •  Resolve parental and student conflicts.

  •  Fosters good school-community relations by working with Middle School AD, building community awareness of and responsive to the athletic program.

  •  Works with principals and assistant principals on all details of visiting teams’ needs, including indoor services and field assistance, as appropriate.

  •  Arrange field and gym practice schedules.

  •  Administer the K-8 and MS athletic and activities budget.

  •  Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Works closely with the District Athletic Director.

  • Experience working with school-aged children.

  • Prior experience in a sport-related field and/or knowledge and experience in the operations of K-12 level education-based athletics is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient with a variety of technology and programs.

  • Efficient in email management and responding to emails in a timely manner.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to make sudden changes in a planned day or set up without guidance.

  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and in stressful environments.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Trustworthy, team-centered individual who is a values-driven professional with a high level of integrity and accountability.


Education/Certification/License:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Must have a principal or administrator license or be in a program to secure a principal or administrator license.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Must be able to reach, bend and stoop frequently.
