✨ What is exciting about my job?
Teaching is not just my profession—it's my calling, my passion, and my life’s mission. As a 3rd–5th grade Multilingual Teacher at Alamosa Elementary School, I find joy and purpose in helping my ML (Multilingual Learner) students grow in their English skills and confidence. Every day, I have the privilege of guiding them on their learning journey. They trust me and see me as a positive role model, which is both humbling and inspiring. What excites me most is watching their progress and knowing I’m making a difference in their lives.
🧠 Words from a consejero/a
Developing meaningful connections with students is foundational to effective teaching. I encourage educators to listen, learn, and lead. Listening goes beyond words—it means paying attention to how students communicate, observing their behavior, and responding with empathy and insight. It also means valuing their stories, backgrounds, hopes, and the unique perspectives they bring to our classrooms. When students feel seen, heard, and respected, they thrive.
💡 Advice you would give a new school leader?
One of the biggest challenges facing Colorado educators is the lack of high-quality mentorship—especially for early-career teachers and teachers of color. Throughout my own journey, having a mentor has been invaluable. A strong mentor offers wisdom, support, perspective, and a belief in your potential. They ask the right questions, encourage reflection, and push you to grow.
To improve teacher retention and success, I strongly recommend that new superintendents and school leaders implement a robust, intentional mentorship program. Investing in our educators is investing in our students.
☀️ If you catch me outside the office, you'll find...
You’ll likely find me smiling and walking with purpose. I’m always working on a project, supporting others, or organizing something meaningful. I love learning from those around me—and don’t be surprised if I ask you a few questions! This year, my focus through Capturing Kids’ Hearts is on asking purposeful questions to build deeper connections.
🤝 How does CO-ALAS add value?
CO-ALAS has become like family to me. It’s a community that encourages, motivates, and inspires me to grow—not just as an educator, but as a person. Over the past three years, I’ve gained so much through attending conferences, presenting sessions, and connecting with the passionate, professional individuals who make up CO-ALAS. It’s a space where I feel seen, supported, and uplifted.
